> Revenue topped estimates, but higher sulfur and ammonia costs and lower sales volumes pushed the phosphate business to an operating loss.

The Mosaic Company posted an adjusted loss of 19 cents per share for the third quarter Tuesday, missing analysts’ expectations by 17 cents per share despite revenue above estimates.

The phosphate business recorded a $194 million operating loss. Rising sulfur and ammonia expenses, combined with weaker sales volumes, more than offset stronger selling prices and pressured the segment’s results.

Mosaic secured sulfur for the fourth quarter at a lower cost, though higher-cost materials bought earlier are expected to weigh on earnings for that period. The lower-cost sulfur is expected to provide its main benefit in early 2027.

Potash remained profitable, but earnings declined. Production challenges led Mosaic to lower its full-year output forecast. Brazil Fertilizantes recorded an operating loss as sales volumes fell. Free cash flow was approximately breakeven.
