> Walleye lost 5.9% and plans to return part of its capital, while Engineers Gate recorded a 5.5% loss.

Walleye Capital and Engineers Gate posted October losses after a sharp selloff in U.S. technology stocks. Walleye dismissed an equity strategy head, while Engineers Gate eliminated an investment team.

Walleye, which manages about $17 billion, lost 5.9% in October. It dismissed Anil Gondi, the head of its equity long-short strategy, and plans to return part of its capital to investors. The dismissal is complete, while the capital return is planned.

Engineers Gate lost 5.5% in October and eliminated its Synthesis equity investment team. Its October loss was 0.4 percentage point smaller than Walleye's, comparing the two funds over the same month.

Taken together, the disclosures pair a monthly performance loss with a change to equity investment staffing at each firm; Walleye also plans to return some capital. The information points to stress among managers after the technology selloff, but the losses and operating changes do not establish that either fund collapsed.
