> Ariane Gorin said Expedia is working to appear in AI search results and build the integrations agents need. The company’s fourth-quarter revenue forecast came in below the analyst estimate cited in the materials.

Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said AI agents have not changed how customers book travel, even as the company adapts its search visibility and integrations for software that helps users plan trips.

Speaking Thursday, Gorin described agents as a way to find trip inspiration and organize plans. “We haven’t seen it change the way they’re actually doing booking,” she said.

Expedia is working with AI agents to understand how they retrieve information, help the company appear in AI search results and ensure the necessary integrations are in place. Gorin said Expedia is working with the agents as it learns how they handle travel searches.

Travelers already compare options across multiple sites, and agents can make that search easier, Gorin said. She also said agents may eventually develop their own travel programs and gain market share. Booking, however, requires confidence that details, amenities and prices are accurate, along with help when a problem arises. “I don’t think those agents are going to do it for you, and that’s why people trust Expedia and come to us,” she said.

Expedia’s third-quarter gross bookings rose 11%, and revenue increased 12%. The company forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $3.69 billion to $3.75 billion, putting the midpoint below the $3.74 billion analyst estimate. Shares were down about 12% Thursday after Expedia issued the forecast Wednesday.

Gorin said the outlook reflected events in Europe and the Middle East, the midterm elections and a fall sale shifted into the third quarter.
