> The outage disrupted ATM deposits and over-the-counter transactions in Tokai as Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 7% and South Korea’s KOSPI closed down 6%.

An outage at the Shinkin Joint Center, part of Japan’s banking system, disrupted services for customers of 128 Japanese credit unions on Nov. 6 as a wider AI stock sell-off coincided with declines in regional markets.

Customers could not withdraw cash. In the Tokai region, ATMs could not process deposits, and over-the-counter transactions were also disrupted.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 7% on Nov. 6, while South Korea’s KOSPI finished the day 6% lower amid the wider sell-off.

Various banks had restored service by 5 a.m. ET on Nov. 6 (10:00 UTC), corresponding to 7 p.m. Japan Standard Time.
