> Altcoin Daily attributed Bitcoin’s sharp pullback to oil-driven inflation that rate hikes cannot easily resolve. It identified support near $77,200 and $72,000 while calling the correction a buying opportunity.

Fears that rising U.S. inflation could prompt higher interest rates triggered a sharp decline in Bitcoin and the broader crypto market, but the underlying driver may be an oil-price surge that monetary policy cannot easily address. With Bitcoin’s long-term supply scarcity intact, the correction was characterized as a buying opportunity.

In an Oct. 15 video, Altcoin Daily said Bitcoin fell sharply as the September U.S. consumer price index revived the prospect of rate hikes, while arguing that higher borrowing costs alone cannot bring down the oil prices driving inflation.

September CPI inflation rose 3.7%, exceeding expectations of 3.6%, while core CPI increased 2.6%, above the 2.5% forecast. The headline figure marked the third-highest U.S. inflation reading since September 2023.

The sell-off also extended beyond crypto. The S&P 500 posted its worst day since July 29, erasing $800 billion in market capitalization, as inflation approached twice the Federal Reserve’s 2% long-term target and markets priced in the possibility of further tightening.

Altcoin Daily identified oil prices as the primary source of the inflation pressure. Fuel oil inflation reached 72%, gasoline inflation stood at 34%, and vegetable prices rose 3.7% amid transportation costs. It argued that although the Federal Reserve can raise rates to curb inflation, it cannot open the Strait of Hormuz or make oil cheaper through monetary tightening.

Bitcoin’s fixed supply was cited as support for the longer-term bullish case. Altcoin Daily described Bitcoin as a finite asset whose supply cannot be inflated, arguing that the decline did not undermine its role as a hedge against currency debasement and calling the pullback a buying opportunity.

Further near-term downside remains possible after Bitcoin gained about 50% over several months. The analysis identified support near $77,200 and $72,000, saying both levels would still represent higher lows and characterizing corrections as healthy within a bull market.
