> Jordi Visser says crypto is regaining attention as the crowded AI stock trade cools. His case centers on Bitcoin’s resilience, tokenization and AI agents executing transactions.

Cryptocurrencies are regaining attention after a surge in AI stocks, with the market entering an early stage of maturation. AI agents, payments and asset tokenization are central to the case for that shift.

In a Cointelegraph interview on October 23, Vici Labs founder Jordi Visser described crypto as being at the start of an important phase of development. His comparison of crypto and AI stocks emphasized changing investor attention and volatility.

Visser pointed to Bitcoin’s resilience to negative news as evidence for his assessment. He said Bitcoin held its lows around $60,000 despite sharp declines in AI stocks and adverse developments in crypto. While gold and silver subsequently surrendered their gains, Bitcoin remained above its moving average and held up through another bout of weakness in AI stocks, he said.

He also described a shift in the relative performance and volatility of the two markets. Although he considered AI a long-term growth trend, Visser said its crowded, steep stock-market rally had ended. His portfolio of 100 AI names was up about 40% year to date, but its volatility measured over a rolling 126 days had risen to about 40. Bitcoin’s reading on the same measure had fallen to about 31, he said, while Bitcoin and Ethereum had recently outperformed AI stocks.

Visser identified interest rates and Treasury supply as factors relevant to crypto markets. He discussed the possibility of changes to government debt supply at a quarterly refunding announcement, linking those changes to borrowing costs and financial conditions.

AI agents were central to his explanation of crypto’s developing role. As AI capabilities improve, Visser said, financial infrastructure becomes more important for agents executing transactions and payments. He argued that crypto’s financial infrastructure was suited to AI agents, connecting that view with tokenization and agent-driven commerce.

Asked whether AI would eliminate human involvement in crypto trading, Visser distinguished decision-making from execution. People could direct agents to carry out trades while remaining involved in the process, he said. “There will still be humans in the mix.”

Visser also discussed the barriers that have limited individual investors’ access to venture capital, private credit, private equity and hedge funds. He framed AI agents as a way to broaden access and compared crypto’s development with the progression from the internet to smartphones and the App Store, with agents providing an interface for using crypto.
