> ZEC made up 0.6% of a $1.4 trillion, 15-asset sector in July. A 5% share would imply about nine times its value at the time, with no timeframe attached.

Zcash (ZEC) represented 0.6% of a $1.4 trillion crypto sector in July, and a hypothetical 5% share would imply about nine times its value at the time.

That scenario has no stated timeframe. It is conditional, not a price forecast or evidence that a repricing is imminent. Stablecoin and blockchain application growth, alongside AI-enabled financial monitoring, could renew interest in financial privacy and benefit ZEC.

The 15-asset sector included Bitcoin (BTC), which accounted for about 90% of its total value. ZEC was valued at about $8 billion in the July snapshot. On Sept. 28, ZEC was valued at about 1.5% of Bitcoin’s market capitalization. That figure compares ZEC with Bitcoin alone, while the July share measures it against the broader sector.

Zcash gives users a choice between transparent and shielded transactions. With shielded transfers, zero-knowledge proofs let the network verify a transaction without making its sender, recipient or amount public. Viewing keys allow users to share details selectively. The privacy feature is therefore optional; transparent transactions remain public.

Shielded pools held about 4.2 million ZEC, or roughly 25% of circulating supply, as of July 20. Shielded transactions had at times accounted for more than 50% of user activity. Those figures describe use of the privacy features, but by themselves do not establish that demand has risen because of AI or that the valuation scenario will occur.

“Privacy is not a niche feature of money,” wrote Michael Zhao, author of the analysis.

Key risks include regulatory acceptance, the cryptographic assumptions underlying the protocol, quantum computing and delivery of future upgrades. No date or deadline for an upgrade is specified.
