The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.04% on Sept. 23, reaching its highest level since 2007 in a major move for global markets and crypto investors.

The yield was at 4.957% on Sept. 11, meaning it has moved above 5% within 12 days. The increase places the benchmark U.S. borrowing rate at a level not seen in nearly two decades.

The dollar index also climbed 0.47% to 101, marking its first move to that level since July 30. The simultaneous rise in long-term Treasury yields and the dollar highlights a shift in key U.S. market rates and currency conditions.

The move follows elevated long-term borrowing costs in other parts of the Treasury market. The 30-year yield reached 5.18% in May, while a July auction produced a 5.06% yield.

Markets will now watch whether the 10-year yield remains above 5% and whether the dollar index holds 101.
