Crypto traders suffered $180 million in liquidations over a single hour on Sept. 23 as Bitcoin (BTC) fell below $85,000, with leveraged long positions bearing nearly all of the losses.

Long liquidations totaled $174 million, while short positions accounted for $6.36 million. The imbalance between the two sides exceeded 27-to-1, showing that the move primarily forced out bullish leveraged bets.

Bitcoin declined 1.58% during the hour. The liquidation wave came as BTC moved below the $85,000 level, concentrating losses among traders positioned for further gains.

Liquidations occur when exchanges automatically close leveraged positions after traders no longer have enough collateral to support them. The figures capture forced closures across the crypto market during the one-hour period.
