A preliminary estimate showed U.S. commercial crude inventories rose 1.786 million barrels for the week ended Sept. 18, while gasoline and distillate stocks fell and official data remained pending.

Crude inventories at the Cushing, Oklahoma, storage hub increased by 2.082 million barrels in the preliminary reading.

Refined-product inventories moved lower. Gasoline stocks declined by 2.16 million barrels, while distillate inventories fell by 2.164 million barrels.

Strategic Petroleum Reserve inventories decreased by 400,000 barrels to 284.6 million barrels in the preliminary figures.

The Energy Information Administration publishes its official weekly petroleum data after 10:30 a.m. ET (14:30 UTC) on Wednesdays. Its latest confirmed report, covering the week ended Sept. 11, showed commercial crude stocks at 423.4 million barrels and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve at 285.0 million barrels.

Crude inventory increases can reflect weaker demand or stronger supply, while declines in gasoline and distillate stocks offer a different indication for refined-product markets. The next official weekly report is due after Wednesday’s scheduled release time.
