U.S. Treasury yields continued climbing Thursday after the benchmark 10-year yield reached a 19-year high, increasing pressure on crypto and other risk assets as investors raised their expectations for another Federal Reserve rate hike.

The 10-year yield rose one basis point to 5.124% early Thursday after jumping more than 13 basis points Wednesday to 5.104%. The 30-year Treasury yield gained more than one basis point to 5.42%, while the two-year yield was little changed at 4.895%.

Markets priced a 70% chance that the Federal Open Market Committee will raise interest rates again at its October meeting. Expectations strengthened after September business activity data showed services activity at its highest level in almost five years and manufacturing activity at its strongest in more than four years.

Fed Governor Michael Barr said Wednesday that “further policy adjustments” are likely to bring inflation down to the central bank’s target. Higher oil prices also added to concerns about inflation, with Brent crude trading at $103.66 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate at $92.68 early Thursday.

Investors will assess weekly jobless claims and August new-home sales later Thursday for additional signals about the U.S. economy.
