Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) may recover after consolidation, while market opportunities increasingly favor assets with verifiable earnings and capital-flow support.

That outlook depends on U.S. consumer prices not worsening materially, corporate earnings expectations remaining resilient and demand for crypto exchange-traded funds continuing. Interest-rate pressure remains after the Federal Reserve raised its policy rate by 25 basis points on Sept. 16, taking the target range to 3.75%-4%.

U.S. consumer prices rose 3.4% year over year and 0.4% month over month in August. Core CPI rose 0.3% from the prior month, while the transmission of oil prices to inflation remains a key risk.

U.S. equities continue to receive earnings support. Third-quarter S&P 500 earnings are expected to increase 28.9% from a year earlier, compared with a 26.7% estimate in June. The index’s forward 12-month price-to-earnings ratio is 19.1, close to its 10-year average.

Crypto fund flows have also remained significant. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about $1.714 billion in combined net inflows from Sept. 21-22, while Ether ETFs attracted about $432 million. The two-day figures show demand extending to ETH but are not sufficient to establish a trend.

BTC briefly moved above $87,000 on Sept. 23 before falling below $84,000. The move showed that strong ETF subscriptions can still be interrupted by macroeconomic shocks.

The Federal Reserve’s policy path remains a major market variable. The Sept. 30 personal consumption expenditures report, the Oct. 2 nonfarm payrolls report and the Oct. 14 consumer price index report are the next key data points. The Federal Open Market Committee’s Oct. 27-28 meeting falls outside the one-month outlook period, although policy expectations may influence markets ahead of the meeting.
