Individual and unidentified Bitcoin (BTC) holders accumulated more than 107,000 BTC during the third quarter through Sept. 18, following two quarters in which individuals were net sellers.

Individuals sold roughly 140,000 BTC across the first and second quarters combined. The Q3 accumulation figure covers only part of the quarter, which ends Sept. 30.

The ownership data groups holders into categories including individuals, businesses, funds and unidentified wallets. It does not show how much of the more than 107,000 BTC came from individual holders versus unidentified wallets.

The unidentified wallets’ owners are not disclosed, and the data does not establish whether they represent U.S. retail investors. It also does not show whether the accumulation will continue through the end of the quarter.

The current ownership categories differ from the 100-to-1,000 BTC wallet cohort covered in an earlier report on the cohort’s accumulation. The current data does not establish a causal relationship between the ownership shift and Bitcoin’s price.

The measurement period runs through Sept. 18, with the third quarter scheduled to end Sept. 30.
