The Kansas City Fed’s composite manufacturing index rose to 14 in September from 10, exceeding the 8.5 forecast and indicating stronger manufacturing activity in the region.

A separate manufacturing index for the Federal Reserve’s Tenth District climbed to 20, indicating accelerated factory conditions within the district. The readings point to firmer regional activity as markets assess the Federal Reserve’s policy path for 2026.

The data came as the U.S. Treasury announced plans to purchase up to $6 billion in long-term debt, adding to market focus on economic growth, borrowing costs and monetary policy.

Market pricing suggests the index’s rise could support expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes in 2026. Market participants are also watching statements from Federal Reserve officials and upcoming inflation and employment data for signals that could shape policy expectations.
