> Fuel and freight costs rose in August as markets await September inflation data and assess how the Federal Reserve’s 3.75%-4% target range may affect Bitcoin.

U.S. on-highway diesel reached a nominal high of $6.529 per gallon for the week of Sept. 21, adding to fuel and freight cost pressure as markets await new inflation data and assess the Federal Reserve’s rate path.

The price rose 24.4 cents from $6.285 the previous week. Distillate fuel stocks fell to 107.431 million barrels for the week ended Sept. 18, down from 107.859 million barrels a week earlier.

Fuel costs were already rising alongside transportation prices in August. No. 2 diesel fuel producer prices rose 24.1% from July, while the truck transportation of freight index increased 2%.

The next test is whether those higher costs appear more broadly in consumer and producer inflation. The August Consumer Price Index rose 0.4% from July and 3.4% from a year earlier. September CPI is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 p.m. UTC), followed by the September Producer Price Index on Oct. 15 at the same time.

The Federal Open Market Committee raised its federal funds target range by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4% on Sept. 16. Inflation remained elevated.

For Bitcoin (BTC), the relevant channel is monetary policy rather than diesel prices alone. If fuel and freight costs contribute to persistent inflation, expectations for near-term rate cuts could weaken or restrictive policy could last longer. That would create a more challenging backdrop for assets sensitive to liquidity and financing conditions, although the available figures do not establish that diesel prices have caused a move in BTC.

September personal income and outlays data, including the personal-consumption-expenditures price measure, are scheduled for Oct. 29 at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 p.m. UTC). The latest milestone follows earlier U.S. diesel-price coverage as fuel costs remain part of the broader inflation discussion.
