# Iran Keeps U.S. Talks Open as Navy Claims Underwater Drone Capture

Iran kept indirect talks with the United States open Sept. 27 while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy claimed it captured a U.S. underwater drone, adding pressure to a key energy-shipping route.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz remain unchanged. “Only a negotiated solution can break this deadlock,” Araghchi said.

Iran’s proposal would establish a seven-day process for reopening the strait and could lead to broader negotiations. Tehran said mediators had not yet delivered Washington’s formal response.

The IRGC Navy claimed it captured a U.S. Remus 600 unmanned underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz and transferred it to specialists to recover its data. U.S. Central Command had not issued an immediate response.

President Donald Trump said he rejected Iran’s latest proposal. The Strait of Hormuz remains central to the standoff because it is a major route for energy shipments.
