> Bitcoin traded at $84,117.13 on Sept. 29 after outperforming gold and the S&P 500 in the third quarter. The setup depends on a move above resistance near $80,000.

Bitcoin (BTC) gained more than 40% in the third quarter and traded at $84,117.13, while a technical setup places a conditional $100,000 target beyond resistance near $80,000.

Bitcoin was trading at $84,117.13 at 7:34 a.m. ET (11:34 UTC) Sept. 29 after outperforming gold, the S&P 500 and other major assets during the quarter.

Gold declined Monday as longer-duration Treasury yields reached their highest levels since 2007 and the U.S. Dollar Index strengthened. The index rose 2.7% from 98.78 on Sept. 9 to nearly 101.50 on Sept. 29.

Bitcoin fell about 1% Monday, briefly reaching nearly $82,500 before recovering to around $84,000.

Jurrien Timmer, Fidelity Investments’ director of global macro, identified resistance near $80,000 as a key level for Bitcoin’s next technical test.

“Bitcoin is looking particularly interesting here as it challenges key resistance at $80k. If it breaks it will confirm a double bottom targeting $100k,” Timmer wrote in a Sept. 25 post on X.

A double bottom takes shape when an asset tests two similar lows with a rebound between them. Analysts may view a break above the intervening peak as a possible bullish signal.

Timmer’s weekly chart identified Bitcoin’s two 2026 lows at $60,033 and $57,742, with an intervening peak near $82,800. Timmer identified a move above roughly $80,000 as the condition for confirming the pattern and establishing the potential $100,000 target.

Chart patterns do not establish that Bitcoin will reach any particular price. The latest move adds to [TokenPost’s earlier coverage of Timmer’s conditional $100,000 Bitcoin target](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/24558>).
