# Large-Cap Altcoins Beat Bitcoin as 79 of 86 Gain in September

Large-cap altcoins outpaced Bitcoin in September, with 79 of 86 tokens gaining and 66 beating BTC as the broader altcoin market capitalization rose 14.7% during the period.

Bitcoin (BTC) gained about 7%, while the altcoin sample recorded an average return of 39.1%. The median gain was 27.5%, indicating that performance extended across much of the group rather than being concentrated in only a few tokens.

The broader altcoin market’s total capitalization increased about 14.7% during the period. That gain accompanied the stronger performance across the large-cap sample.

Among the top 100 cryptocurrencies, QNT rose about 319.2%, AKE gained 293.7% and BTW advanced 211.2%.
