# Bitcoin Slips Below $84,000 as Oil Tops $100 Amid Tanker Tensions

> Bitcoin touched roughly $83,840 during Asian trading as Brent crude climbed nearly 1% and the dollar strengthened amid heightened Strait of Hormuz tensions.

Bitcoin (BTC) briefly dropped under $84,000 on Oct. 7 as crude prices exceeded $100 and risk-sensitive markets reacted to unrest involving tanker traffic near the Strait of Hormuz.

Bitcoin dropped about 1.5% to just above $84,200 during Asian trading, touching roughly $83,840 before recovering. Brent crude rose nearly 1% to about $101.50 a barrel, while the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield climbed three basis points to 5.31%.

Losses spread across major cryptocurrencies. Dogecoin (DOGE) fell 5% to about $0.09, Ether (ETH) declined 3.5% to about $2,610 and XRP dropped nearly 3% to about $1.46.

The International Maritime Organization listed 93 confirmed maritime incidents in the Middle East as of Oct. 6, including tanker damage in the Strait of Hormuz on Oct. 4. Its incident list did not identify a perpetrator.

Market attention will turn to the Federal Reserve’s minutes from its Sept. 15–16 meeting, scheduled for release at 2 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC) on Oct. 7.
