> The 10-year yield rose 3 basis points to 5.307% Wednesday as investors awaited the auction and Federal Reserve meeting minutes due later in the day.

U.S. Treasury yields moved higher Wednesday as investors prepared for a $39 billion 10-year note auction and awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve’s September policy meeting.

The benchmark 10-year yield rose 3 basis points to 5.307% after declining in the previous session. The 30-year yield increased 4 basis points to 5.69%, while the two-year yield added 1 basis point to 4.801%.

A basis point equals 0.01 percentage point. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions, so rising yields indicate falling prices for existing bonds.

The Treasury’s 10-year sale will test whether current yields are attractive enough to draw buyers amid concerns about inflation, debt levels and term risk. Investors may seek a larger premium to hold longer-maturity government debt if those concerns persist.

The Federal Open Market Committee minutes are due at 2 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC). The document is expected to provide more detail on how Federal Reserve officials assessed monetary-policy decision-making during their September meeting.

Policymakers raised interest rates at that meeting, marking the first increase since 2023. Treasury yields have moved higher over the past six weeks as concerns about inflation and rising energy prices weighed on the bond market.

The 10-year auction and the release of the meeting minutes are the next key events for the Treasury market Wednesday.
