> The four-month plan starts immediately and calls for a substantial diesel release within its first 20 days.

The Group of Seven has committed to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel stocks through the International Energy Agency over four months, seeking to ease pressure in energy markets as diesel supplies remain constrained.

The release is scheduled to begin immediately. The plan calls for a substantial diesel release within the first 20 days, but it does not specify how much of the total will be diesel, crude oil or other fuel products.

The G7 has asked the IEA to monitor implementation and submit a follow-up report within 20 days. That report will include recommendations on further emergency measures and replenishing national stockpiles.

The move follows an earlier IEA emergency action announced March 11, under which 400 million barrels were made available after disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict. IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said Oct. 2 that about 325 million barrels had been released, representing more than 80% of that commitment.

The IEA has said crude exports from the Middle East recovered significantly, while refined-product flows remained severely constrained and diesel markets faced higher prices. The G7 also agreed to coordinate refinery maintenance and increase refinery utilization where feasible.
