> Seven commodity vessels crossed the strait Tuesday, the lowest daily count since July 23, as tanker attacks and harassment intensified.

Crude flows through the Strait of Hormuz fell 27% in a week to at least 10.1 million barrels per day, while rising tanker attacks threaten to intensify energy-supply and market-risk concerns for US investors.

Seven commodity vessels crossed the strait Tuesday, the lowest daily count since July 23. At least 12 attacks, attempted attacks or harassment incidents involving oil, liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas tankers were recorded from Sept. 28-Oct. 5.

The Joint Maritime Information Center said the activity included drone overflights, surveillance and radio hailing. “These actions continue to demonstrate Iran’s intent to assert presence along key transit lanes and maintain pressure on transiting vessels,” the center said.

Hormuz carries major Gulf oil and gas shipments, but lower traffic does not equal an identical decline in regional exports. Some cargoes have moved through routes in the Gulf of Oman and the Red Sea, while measurements vary depending on whether they cover crude, all petroleum liquids, the strait itself or wider regional exports.
