> The fuel will be offered to French distributors at its purchase cost, with an estimated reduction of 12 to 18 euro cents per liter for three months.

France will release 10 million barrels of diesel from strategic stocks to French distributors, expanding a Group of Seven fuel program aimed at easing energy-market pressure and reducing pump prices.

France’s Finance Ministry announced the measure Oct. 7, saying the diesel was acquired before the energy-price crisis and will be sold to distributors at its purchase cost. The government estimates the release could lower prices by 12 to 18 euro cents per liter for three months.

The 10 million barrels represent a significant share of the 54 million barrels consumed in France over a three-month period. The estimate is not a guarantee that the full reduction will appear at fuel pumps or that it will do so immediately.

The action follows a G7 agreement announced Oct. 2 to coordinate the release of up to 100 million barrels of strategic crude and refined products over four months. The plan calls for a substantial diesel release during its first 20 days, followed by additional crude and fuel supplies.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the G7’s cooperation was intended to signal that energy prices should fall. “This unity within the G7 sends a clear signal to the markets to bring down energy prices,” Macron said Oct. 2.

France will draw on existing strategic stocks while preserving supply security. The country’s 10-year benchmark government yield stood at 4.83% on Oct. 7, adding a broader market backdrop to the fuel intervention.

The release is part of [the G7’s four-month fuel release plan](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/26827>), which front-loads diesel supplies before additional crude and refined products reach markets.
