> Verizon traded at $43.25 after hours, with the decline estimated between 5% and 7% as investors assessed a potential new wireless rival.

Verizon shares slid in after-hours trading Thursday after SpaceX agreed to acquire Grain Management’s nationwide 800 MHz spectrum portfolio, raising concerns about stronger competition in the U.S. wireless market.

Verizon traded at $43.25, with the decline estimated between 5% and 7%. AT&T and T-Mobile also fell in extended trading after the deal was announced.

The deal covers as much as 14 MHz of paired frequencies in the 800 MHz band. SpaceX said the frequencies would help Starlink Mobile improve signal penetration through obstacles such as walls and support service inside buildings.

SpaceX plans to combine the 800 MHz spectrum’s broader coverage with capacity from its existing 2 GHz spectrum. The company described the acquisition as a step toward making Starlink Mobile a major U.S. carrier.

The transaction remains subject to Federal Communications Commission approval and other closing conditions. The announcement did not set a launch date for Starlink Mobile service using the spectrum.
