> Bitcoin fell to $80,350 as short-term holders moved 55,600 BTC to exchanges at a loss, signaling heightened selling pressure among newer investors.

Bitcoin (BTC) fell below $81,000, triggering $1.09 billion in crypto liquidations and a large transfer of coins to exchanges at a loss as newer investors faced mounting pressure.

BTC dropped to $80,350, its lowest level since Sept. 18, before recovering to about $82,500. The decline drove $1.05 billion in liquidations of long positions, which profit from rising prices, during the 24 hours through 6 a.m. ET Friday (10 a.m. UTC).

Short-term holders — entities that have held Bitcoin for up to six months — sent 55,600 BTC to exchanges at a loss Thursday. The figure exceeded the comparable total recorded June 26, when Bitcoin fell below $60,000 for a second straight day.

Transfers at a loss occur when coins move to exchanges below the price of their previous transaction. They can reflect investors preparing to exit positions after a decline, although moving coins to an exchange does not necessarily mean the entire position was sold.

The liquidation total was the largest daily tally since Aug. 21, when a Bitcoin rebound from about $73,000 to $79,500 coincided with $1.3 billion in liquidations of short positions.
