> The 12-exchange sample recorded $3.84 trillion in September 2026, while the derivatives-to-spot ratio fell to 5.51x from 6.87x in August.

The 12 exchanges in the sample recorded $3.84 trillion in derivatives trading volume in September 2026, up 9.4% from $3.51 trillion in August as most venues posted monthly gains.

Eight exchanges reported higher volume, while four declined. Binance led the group with $1.78 trillion, representing 46.5% of the total. OKX ranked second with $698.8 billion, or 18.2%, followed by Bybit with $405.6 billion, or 10.6%.

The three largest exchanges accounted for 75.3% of combined derivatives volume, compared with 74.7% in August. Binance alone handled nearly half of the sample’s activity.

The derivatives-to-spot trading-volume ratio fell to 5.51x from 6.87x, a decline of about 19.8%. The lower ratio indicated reduced derivatives activity relative to spot trading during the month.

The data underwent outlier removal, methodology calibration and standardization. The data set also included warnings about possible wash trading and bot activity.
