Trump announced Oct. 11 that an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine was effective immediately. “Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” Trump said.

Ukraine said Russian forces had struck a power plant in Kyiv and energy facilities in the Kharkiv region after the announcement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine supported the proposal but was waiting for Russia to respond and stop attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The proposal’s scope remained unclear. It was described as covering attacks on oil refineries, while Ukraine referred more broadly to energy infrastructure.

Memory stocks weakened in premarket trading. Micron Technology fell 2.1%, while Samsung Electronics and SK hynix each dropped more than 4% in Seoul.
