> Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix fell as much as 8.8% and 9.2%, while U.S. chip stocks also declined amid a global risk-off move.

Broadcom CEO 陈福阳’s warning that AI investing resembles a casino helped drive a global semiconductor selloff Tuesday, adding pressure to chip-heavy markets.

陈福阳 said in Singapore on Monday that many investors do not understand what they are investing in and have set expectations so high that the outcome can feel like gambling.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the world’s two largest memory-chip makers, fell as much as 8.8% and 9.2%, respectively, during early trading. Their declines helped push South Korea’s benchmark stock index down 7%; the two companies account for about half of the index’s weighting.

Both stocks have now dropped about 15% over the past five trading days. Taiwan’s benchmark, heavily weighted toward chipmakers, fell 2.5%, while Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. declined 2%.

U.S. market indicators also weakened. Micron Technology fell nearly 4% overnight, and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index dropped 2.7%.
