> Micron shares fell 4.5% Tuesday, extending a four-session decline as semiconductor stocks weakened and investors focused on CXMT, AI demand and labor uncertainty.

Micron Technology shares fell 4.5% Tuesday as investors weighed competition from Chinese memory-chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), questions about artificial-intelligence spending and labor uncertainty at Micron’s Taiwan operations.

The stock reached its lowest level since Sept. 16 and extended its decline to four consecutive sessions as of 10:46 a.m. ET (14:46 UTC). The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 1.5%, marking its fifth straight daily decline and its lowest level in about four weeks.

Nvidia declined 0.4%, Broadcom fell 0.3%, Intel dropped 1.1%, AMD slipped 1.2% and Marvell Technology lost 2.2%.

CXMT said it had advanced a fifth-generation DRAM technology platform and announced mass production Sept. 20. The development has focused investor attention on the possibility of additional competition in conventional DRAM, where increased supply could pressure pricing, margins and market share. The announcement does not establish the scale of CXMT’s production, its commercial readiness or the timing of server-memory shipments.

Cloud servers supporting AI require growing quantities of DRAM, high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and NAND, making memory demand important to Micron’s outlook. Micron reported $43.09 billion in 2026 revenue from its Cloud Memory Business Unit, which includes HBM, DDR, LPDDR and GDDR products.

Micron also began volume production of HBM4 36GB 12-high products in 2026 and delivered samples of HBM4 48GB 16-high products to multiple customers. Chairman, President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said, “Micron delivered record fiscal 2026 results, and we expect an even stronger fiscal 2027.”

Labor uncertainty added another concern. At Micron’s Taoyuan facility in Taiwan, 1,994 of 2,012 participating union members voted to authorize a strike over bonuses and a demand for a permanent profit-sharing mechanism. The vote does not indicate that production has been interrupted, and no strike date had been set as of Oct. 7.
