> The dashboard paired mining economics with measures of Bitcoin production and transfers from miners to exchanges.

CryptoQuant’s mining dashboard, described in 2022, brought Bitcoin (BTC) miners’ revenue, costs and coin movements into one view. Its measures covered both mining economics and transfers that can indicate selling pressure.

Miners receive newly issued BTC as a block subsidy for producing a block. They also collect transaction fees from users whose transactions are included in blocks. Network activity can push fees higher. Electricity expenses and mining difficulty also affect the resources needed to mine Bitcoin.

Bitcoin’s protocol adjusts mining difficulty after every 2,016 blocks, or roughly every two weeks. The adjustment is designed to keep the average time between blocks near 10 minutes. Higher difficulty means miners need more resources to produce the same amount of Bitcoin.

Two dashboard measures focused on mining output and exchange transfers. The Miners’ Position Index (MPI) compares the amount of Bitcoin mined over the past year with a moving average calculated over that same period. Miner Sell Pressure (MSP) measures the 30-day change in the total weekly amount of Bitcoin miners send to exchanges. Higher MSP readings indicate larger deposits from miners to exchanges.

Mining costs have also featured in miners’ expansion into [artificial intelligence and high-performance computing](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/26148>). The dashboard’s revenue, cost and flow measures brought those operating pressures together with miners’ movements of BTC.
