> Bitcoin later recovered toward $81,000 as Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 4.90% and U.S. inflation accelerated in September.

Bitcoin (BTC) fell to just above $80,000 on Oct. 15 before recovering toward $81,000, as a broad market retreat coincided with roughly $950 million in crypto futures liquidations across rolling 24-hour snapshots.

The liquidations were forced closures of leveraged futures positions. The 24-hour estimates ranged from $942.1 million to $951.4 million, making the $950 million figure approximate.

U.S. consumer prices rose 0.6% in September, up from a 0.4% monthly increase in August, while annual inflation accelerated to 3.7% from 3.4%. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose 2.6% over the year. Both monthly and annual inflation increased faster than in August. The September report was released Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC).

Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed down 4.90% at 64,425.95 on Oct. 15, a 3,318.34-point decline. The close was at 2:30 a.m. ET (06:30 UTC). The simultaneous declines in crypto and Asian equities underscored the broad cross-market scope of the retreat during the same session.
