> The prior week’s total was revised up to 198,000 from 197,000.

New applications for U.S. unemployment benefits rose by 1,000 to 199,000 in the week ended Oct. 10, coming in 1,000 below the 200,000 estimate in TokenPost’s [pre-release calendar](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/32266>).

The prior week’s total was revised up to 198,000 from 197,000. Initial claims count people filing for unemployment benefits for the first time.

The weekly labor-market figure covers a different period from September’s Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures prices received by domestic producers. TokenPost’s [September producer inflation report](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/32610>) included the 199,000 claims reading alongside the monthly inflation data.
