A fire broke out at Russia’s Ryazan refinery during a drone attack on Oct. 15, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv was resuming strikes on Russian energy sites after a three-day pause.

Russia’s Defense Ministry described the attack as Ukrainian and said it took place between 9 p.m. Wednesday and midnight Thursday ET (01:00-04:00 UTC Thursday). The ministry said it intercepted four Flamingo cruise missiles and 69 drones, and that falling drone debris caused the refinery fire. A senior Ukrainian official also confirmed Ukraine hit the site.

Ryazan Region Gov. Pavel Malkov said a warehouse and vehicles at another facility in the region were damaged. Preliminary information showed no injuries, and damage was being assessed.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine had paused strikes on Russian energy sites for three days at Washington’s request. He said Kyiv was resuming refinery attacks, citing continued Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
