> The Sept. 30 total was nearly 18 times its start-of-year level, while Base accounted for about $16 million.

Tokenized stocks used in decentralized finance (DeFi) reached $262.4 million across blockchains by Sept. 30, nearly 18 times their start-of-year value, as balances spread well beyond Base.

The $262.4 million figure measures stock-linked tokens deployed in DeFi across chains, rather than the total market value of tokenized stocks or a Coinbase-only pool on Base. Base accounted for about $16 million, while Solana held $95.9 million and Robinhood Chain $79.9 million. BNB Chain had $35.3 million and Ethereum $34.7 million in the same breakdown.

That distinction matters because Coinbase-linked tokenized stocks have become usable as collateral in Aave V4 on Base. Seven tokens — AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc and TSLAc — were accepted as collateral for USDC borrowing on Sept. 25. The chainwide Base figure does not isolate the amount held in those seven tokens or in a particular protocol.

A separate snapshot showed [DeFi venues holding about $252 million in tokenized stocks](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/30503>). A separate Sept. 8 measure put the entire tokenized-stock market at $3.19 billion, with 6.3% deposited in DeFi. That earlier market-wide valuation and the Sept. 30 DeFi balance are from different dates and measure different things.

Coinbase Onchain SPV Ltd. issues the certificates accepted by Aave, while Alpaca Securities holds the backing shares in separate custody accounts. At launch, users could post the tokens as collateral but could not borrow the stock tokens themselves or open equity-against-equity positions. Coinbase tokenized stocks are available to eligible users outside the United States.

Trading volume is another separate measure. Tokenized-stock decentralized exchange volume totaled $9.70 billion over the 30 days before Sept. 8; that trading activity is distinct from the value held in DeFi. The figures describe different uses of tokenized stocks and should not be combined as a single balance.
