> The $50 figure assumes the rate lasts a full year and the asset’s price stays flat; fees and price changes affect its dollar value.

A hypothetical 5% annual percentage yield (APY) would add about $50 in rewards to a $1,000 crypto position over one year, before fees, if the rate held and the asset’s dollar price stayed flat. This is a worked example, not a current rate or projection. It estimates additional tokens first; their dollar value depends on the price during the holding period.

Under the same flat-price assumption, a provider commission equal to 10% of rewards would leave about $45 in value from the $50 example. A price move can outweigh that reward: a 20% decline alongside a 5% increase in tokens would put the position near $840, or 16% below its starting value, before fees. With a 20% price increase, the same token gain would bring it to about $1,260, a 26% increase. Both price examples assume the 5% APY persists for the full year and exclude fees.

Staking rates and terms differ by asset and provider. On the Solana network, rewards depend on inflation, the share of Solana (SOL) being staked, and a validator’s uptime and commission. Validators can miss rewards or face penalties if they fail to perform correctly. A displayed APY may be an estimate, and providers may show it before or after commission.

The method also affects the terms. Operating an Ethereum validator requires at least 32 Ether (ETH), while pooled staking can accept smaller deposits. Pools and custodial services add operators, contracts or custody arrangements, and they may have different fees and withdrawal procedures. Ethereum validator exits pass through a queue, with timing affected by network demand.

A dollar estimate starts with the amount staked and the rate after fees. The token’s price over the holding period determines the value of the rewards. Staking can increase the number of tokens held, but it does not fix their future dollar value.
