> Four groups of partial liquidations closed about 8,163 Ether (ETH) in exposure before the wallet’s remaining short grew to roughly $16.2 million at noon ET Oct. 19 (16:00 UTC).

An unidentified Hyperliquid trader added about 1,126 Ether (ETH) to a short on Oct. 19 after forced closures reduced the position overnight, leaving a roughly $16.2 million bet against the asset.

The account went through four groups of partial liquidations, comprising 632 execution fills, between 7:27 p.m. ET Oct. 18 (23:27 UTC) and 3:34 a.m. ET Oct. 19 (07:34 UTC). The closures covered 8,162.845 ETH in short exposure, worth about $19.78 million at execution.

The estimated trading loss on those closed contracts was $469,000 before fees and funding. The $19.78 million figure measures the value of contracts forcibly closed, not the amount the trader lost or the outcome of the position that stayed open.

The wallet had opened short exposure near $2,366 per ETH. Its forced buybacks occurred at roughly $2,409 to $2,445 as the higher price worked against the short. A short gains value when the asset falls and loses value when it rises.

Even after the final liquidation group, the wallet remained short about 5,663.1 ETH. Four orders from 9:56 to 10:04 a.m. ET Oct. 19 (13:56–14:04 UTC) added roughly 1,126.2 ETH in exposure. Those orders enlarged the position that survived the liquidations.

At noon ET Oct. 19 (16:00 UTC), the wallet held a short of about 6,789.3 ETH, valued near $16.2 million. That snapshot followed the additions and does not establish the eventual result of the open trade.

Hyperliquid can reduce liquidatable positions in stages. For a position larger than 100,000 USDC, its process initially sends 20% to the order book for liquidation. A partial closure can leave a smaller short in place if the account then meets margin requirements.

The displayed liquidation estimate at the noon snapshot was $2,434.67. An ETH mid-price checked immediately afterward was about $2,393.05, roughly 1.7% lower. Hyperliquid uses the mark price to trigger liquidation, and the displayed estimate can change as account conditions change.
