> The KOSPI fell 3.73% to 5,552.74, its lowest close since April 7, after two sessions of gains.

South Korean shares closed at their lowest level in more than six months Tuesday as chip stocks weakened amid concerns about the global artificial intelligence investment boom. The slide puts Asian technology shares and broader risk appetite in focus, extending the market signal beyond the KOSPI itself.

South Korea’s benchmark KOSPI fell 215.27 points, or 3.73%, to 5,552.74. The close was its lowest since April 7. The decline came after two consecutive sessions of gains, halting the brief rebound.

Concerns about credit and profitability linked to AI investment have not fully faded, raising questions about the rebound’s durability. The credit question concerns financing for AI investment, while the profitability question is whether that spending can generate returns.

Those issues remained in view even after the index’s two-day advance. The pressure on chip stocks and the KOSPI’s six-month low give the concerns a visible market expression in South Korea, while the wider focus includes Asian technology shares and overall risk appetite.
