> Production remained 5.1% above its September 2025 level despite coming in 6.7% below forecast.

Norway's natural gas output fell 12.6% in September from August, a decline for a major European Union (EU) supplier as the bloc heads into winter with below-normal gas storage.

Preliminary figures put daily production at an average of 298.4 million standard cubic meters, down from 341.6 million in August. September output was 6.7% below forecast but still 5.1% higher than in September 2025. Gas sales declined to 9.0 billion standard cubic meters from 10.6 billion a month earlier.

Norway supplied 31% of EU natural gas imports in 2025, compared with 26% from the United States. Europe’s [gas storage levels](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/31209>) were below historical levels ahead of winter.

Europe’s gas system could accommodate higher liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports and meet demand under a reference winter scenario. The availability of additional LNG is uncertain, and some colder-winter scenarios show potential unmet demand.

Norway’s annual offshore maintenance program ended as planned in September. Its production shutdowns were briefer and less frequent than in earlier years, with limited effects on gas transport capacity. The production figures do not establish how much maintenance contributed to September’s decline.
