‘Satoshi Index’ is a daily series in which [Satoshi Note™, a crypto portfolio tracker](<https://satoshinote.io/?utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261021_18>), analyzes the current positions of top traders using on-chain data. Data refreshes hourly; figures reflect the aggregation time stated in the article. [Editor's note]

As of 3:28 p.m. KST on Oct. 21 (06:28 UTC), about 87% of the position value held by the top traders ranked on 7-day performance was short. Longs totaled about $492 million against about $3.26 billion in shorts. The figures combine the top 100 accounts by 7-day performance on four exchanges, Hyperliquid, Lighter, dYdX and Pacifica, added up by asset.

That is 4 percentage points more short than the 83% recorded at 8:18 a.m. KST in this morning's edition. Over the seven hours between the two counts, the 7-day group's long value fell by about $140 million and its short value rose by about $233 million. The 30-day group also moved to 87% short, at about $512 million long against $3.47 billion short, from 83% in the morning. On Hyperliquid, prices over the 24 hours to the aggregation time rose 2.0% for Bitcoin (BTC), 2.7% for Ethereum (ETH), 2.3% for Solana (SOL) and 3.8% for Hyperliquid (HYPE), while Zcash (ZEC) gained 12.7%, NEAR Protocol (NEAR) 9.8% and Worldcoin (WLD) 8.8%.

The group ranked on 24-hour performance holds about $847 million long and about $199 million short, a long share of about 81%. That is close to the morning's 80%, but long value is down about $115 million and short value down about $48 million, so the group's total position size has shrunk.

Unrealized results are up slightly for the 24-hour group, at about $27 million against $21 million in the morning. The 7-day group is down about $95 million and the 30-day group about $105 million, compared with losses of $90 million and $76 million in the morning. In the 30-day group, HYPE shorts carry about $66 million in losses and BTC shorts about $50 million; in the 7-day group, HYPE shorts are down about $52 million and BTC shorts about $47 million.

The largest change from the morning in the 7-day group is in [Zcash (ZEC)](<https://satoshinote.io/traders/coins/zec?window=day&utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261021_18>). The 7-day group's ZEC count moved from 48 long and 49 short, a long headcount share of 50%, to 33 long and 68 short, or 33%, as 15 accounts left the long side and 19 joined the short side. By value the group is 81% short at about $51 million long against $215 million short, compared with 72% short in the morning. The 24-hour group's ZEC, by contrast, is 88 long and 28 short, with about $138 million long against $5.8 million short, a long share of 96%. NEAR Protocol (NEAR) is 94% long in the 24-hour group at 44 long to 17 short, about $30 million against $1.9 million, with an unrealized gain of about $10 million, the largest in that group. In the 7-day group, NEAR is 25 long and 57 short, with about $45 million long against $82 million short, or 65% short, less one-sided than the morning's 84%. Monero (XMR), the only asset in the 7-day top 20 that leaned long by value in the morning, is now 28 long and 28 short with about $5.1 million long against $13.3 million short, or 72% short, leaving no long-leaning asset among the 7-day group's top 20 by value. On the 24-hour ranking, only Cardano (ADA) leans short among the top 20, as in the morning.

The 7-day and 30-day groups moving from 83% to 87% short is hard to read as a market call. Those rankings hold the accounts that did well in the declines of the past week and month, and on a day when prices rose, the long side's value fell and the short side's value grew, which shows up directly in the shares. The 24-hour group is 81% long for the same reason in reverse: accounts that did well with longs on a day when the major assets rose fill that ranking. The gap between the groups reflects the choice of window, not which side is right.

A few large positions can swing the value shares. Positions on other exchanges and spot holdings outside these four venues are not counted, so hedging cannot be ruled out. Current positions alone do not reveal any trader's full strategy or the market's next move.
