> South Korea’s KOSPI gained more than 4% intraday on Oct. 21, while Taiwan’s benchmark rose about 1.9% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 advanced about 1.24%.

Stocks in Taiwan and Japan rose on Oct. 21 alongside a sharp South Korean rebound, extending the advance across Asian markets as buying returned to technology and semiconductor shares.

South Korea’s KOSPI gained about 4% to 4.2% intraday. Taiwan’s weighted stock index rose about 1.9%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 advanced about 1.24%. The MSCI Asia Pacific index excluding Japan was up about 1.5%. All four figures were intraday readings.

South Korea posted the largest gain among the three national benchmarks in those readings. The moves in Taiwan and Japan showed that the rebound extended beyond the Korean market, following earlier weakness in technology shares tied to concerns about artificial intelligence valuations.

U.S. corporate earnings added to the stronger market mood. 3M raised its full-year profit forecast, while third-quarter results from Hasbro and Equifax offered further signs of corporate earnings strength.

Brent crude retreated below $109 a barrel after nearing $112 intraday, and the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield edged lower. The declines eased some of the pressure that energy costs and interest rates had placed on stocks.
