South Korea's tokenized assets and stablecoins could reach $253 billion by 2030 if the country's share of global markets matches its share of world GDP, putting upcoming securities rules in focus.

The conditional estimate consists of $221.5 billion in tokenized assets and $31.6 billion in stablecoins. It uses South Korea's 1.58% share of global GDP to scale projections for the two worldwide markets. The tokenized-asset figure excludes real estate. The total describes potential market size under that assumption; it does not establish how much will be issued or circulate by 2030.

The outlook comes as growth in crypto trading accounts is projected to slow. South Korea had 11.18 million crypto accounts eligible to trade in the first half of 2026, a count equivalent to more than 20% of its population. Accounts are not a count of individual holders. Even in the most optimistic scenario, the account total grows only about 13% from its 2026 level by 2030.

Tokenized financial assets and stablecoins would offer a different path for growth than adding trading accounts. Assets under consideration for tokenization include government and corporate bonds, private money market funds, intellectual property and wine. The estimate's exclusion of real estate limits the types of assets represented in its $221.5 billion figure.

Financial institutions are building and testing systems for tokenized securities. Financial groups have also taken about $1.7 billion in equity stakes in crypto exchanges. Those stakes represent exchange investments, while the work on tokenized-securities systems addresses issuance and trading infrastructure.

South Korea's National Assembly passed amendments to the Act on Electronic Registration of Stocks and Bonds and the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act on Jan. 15. The changes provide a legal basis for tokenized securities. What the rules permit will help determine how much of the potential market can develop.

The Financial Services Commission (FSC), South Korea's financial regulator, has [outlined a phased roadmap for tokenized stocks, bonds and funds](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/regulation/26081>). The amendments are scheduled to take effect Feb. 4, 2027.
