> The 2026 opening price is near $87,490, while the 20-month moving average is near $87,165. The average purchase price for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs sits near $81,500.

Bitcoin (BTC) faces resistance near $87,000 as buyers from six to 12 months earlier have a cost basis near $87,700, while bid liquidity clusters around $80,000 across exchange order books.

The $87,700 figure is the average acquisition price for coins bought six to 12 months earlier. Below that price, the group is carrying an unrealized loss on average. Some holders may choose to exit if Bitcoin returns to their purchase price, adding selling pressure within the resistance range.

The 2026 opening price near $87,490 and the 20-month moving average near $87,165 also sit in the resistance range.

Similar cost-basis levels have halted rebounds this year. Bitcoin reached the six-to-12-month buyers’ average purchase price in January, then fell by more than one-third. A May rebound met the cost basis of buyers from one to two years earlier and was followed by a decline of about one-quarter. That older cohort’s cost basis now sits near $100,000.

Bid liquidity across exchange order books is concentrated around $80,000.

The average purchase price for U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds is about $81,500, placing it just above the $80,000 bid cluster. Further below, Bitcoin’s true market mean, a cost measure for coins acquired on secondary markets, is near $77,500. The figures describe different groups of buyers and should not be treated as a single marketwide break-even price.

Recent holders offer another view of the market. Short-term holders, who have held Bitcoin for up to six months, have a cost basis near $74,600. That measure covers a different holder group from the six-to-12-month cohort whose cost basis is near $87,700.
