> A rolling 24-hour snapshot put XRP’s market capitalization near $85.7 billion; UTC daily closes show a separate $1.97 billion increase from Oct. 20 to Oct. 21.

XRP’s market capitalization rose about $4.1 billion over 24 hours into early U.S. trading Oct. 21, a change in calculated value that does not establish whether that much new money entered the market.

Market capitalization is calculated by multiplying an asset’s price by its circulating supply. The figure can rise as the price increases without an equivalent amount of new investment entering the market.

The rolling 24-hour snapshot put XRP’s market capitalization at roughly $85.7 billion. A separate series of UTC calendar-day closes showed the market cap at $84.23 billion on Oct. 21, up from $82.26 billion a day earlier. That is an increase of about $1.97 billion, or 2.39%.

The two market-cap changes cover different periods and are not directly comparable. In the daily series, XRP’s closing price rose to $1.37 on Oct. 21 from $1.33 on Oct. 20.

At 1:57 p.m. ET (17:57 UTC) on Oct. 21, about $3.5 million in XRP positions had been liquidated over the prior 24 hours across 11 tracked exchanges. Short positions accounted for $3.1 million, compared with $342,600 in long positions, across 991 liquidated positions.

XRP’s Oct. 21 close remained below its $1.52 close on Oct. 4.
