‘Satoshi Index’ is a daily series in which [Satoshi Note™, a crypto portfolio tracker](<https://satoshinote.io/?utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261022_18>), analyzes the current positions of top traders using on-chain data. Data refreshes hourly; figures reflect the aggregation time stated in the article. [Editor's note]

As of 4:13 p.m. KST on Oct. 22 (07:13 UTC), about 87% of the position value held by the top traders ranked on 24-hour performance was short. Longs totaled about $428 million against about $2.78 billion in shorts. The figures combine the top 100 accounts by 24-hour performance on four exchanges, Hyperliquid, Lighter, dYdX and Pacifica, added up by asset.

That is more one-sided than the 82% short recorded at 12:48 p.m. KST in this morning's edition. Over the roughly three and a half hours between the two counts, the 24-hour group's long value fell by about $139 million and its short value rose by about $154 million. On Hyperliquid, prices over the 24 hours to the aggregation time were down 1.7% for Bitcoin (BTC), 2.0% for Ethereum (ETH), 2.8% for Solana (SOL), 4.2% for Hyperliquid (HYPE) and 5.3% for NEAR Protocol (NEAR), while Monero (XMR) rose 9.3% and Lighter (LIT) 8.8%.

The group ranked on 7-day performance still leans long, but less so. It holds about $1.54 billion long and about $586 million short, a long share of about 72%, where this morning's edition had it at 76%. The long value is almost unchanged and the short value rose by about $100 million. The 30-day group holds about $360 million long against $3.48 billion short, or 91% short, the same as this morning.

Unrealized results moved by smaller amounts. The 24-hour group is down about $36 million, slightly more than this morning's $34 million loss. The 7-day group is up about $36 million, down from a $50 million gain, and the 30-day group is down about $42 million, roughly half of this morning's $83 million loss. In the 24-hour group, BTC shorts carry about $30 million in losses and NEAR shorts about $17 million. In the 30-day group, HYPE shorts are down about $48 million and BTC shorts about $36 million. In the 7-day group, NEAR longs are up about $24 million and Zcash (ZEC) longs about $10 million, the two largest gains.

Bitcoin (BTC) shows 69 traders long and 132 short on the 24-hour ranking, with about $127 million long against $799 million short, or 86% short; this morning it was 97 long and 94 short at 81% short. Over the three and a half hours, 28 accounts left the long side and 38 joined the short side, the largest drop in long headcount share among the 24-hour group's top 20 assets by value. On the 7-day ranking, 139 are long and 63 short, with about $451 million long and $114 million short, a long share of 80%, little changed from 83% this morning. On the 30-day ranking, 95 are long and 137 short, or 92% short by value.

Ethereum (ETH) on the 24-hour ranking shows 48 long and 132 short, with about $53 million long against $804 million short, or 94% short, as 23 accounts joined the short side since this morning's 90%. On the 7-day ranking, 109 are long and 61 short, with about $493 million long and $128 million short, a long share of 79%, down a little from 83%. On the 30-day ranking, 50 are long and 153 short, or 93% short, the same as this morning. The 7-day group's ETH longs are down about $15 million, the largest loss in that group.

The largest fall in long headcount share within the 7-day group since this morning is in [Zcash (ZEC)](<https://satoshinote.io/traders/coins/zec?window=day&utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261022_18>). The 7-day group's ZEC count moved from 86 long and 24 short, a long headcount share of 78%, to 75 long and 34 short, or 69%, as 11 accounts left the long side and 10 joined the short side. By value it is still 86% long, at about $150 million against $25 million. The 24-hour group's ZEC stands at 44 long and 68 short, with about $42 million long against $165 million short, or 80% short, more one-sided than this morning's 72%. On Hyperliquid, ZEC fell about 1.8% over the 24 hours to the aggregation time, to $1,249.

NEAR Protocol (NEAR) in the 24-hour group shows 39 long and 65 short, with about $4 million long against $91 million short, or 96% short, up from 67% short this morning. In the 7-day group it is 68% long at 44 long to 27 short, about $61 million against $29 million, with an unrealized gain of about $24 million, the largest in that group. Among the 24-hour group's top 20 assets by value, the same two as this morning lean long: Lighter (LIT) at 38 long and 54 short (54% long by value, price up 8.8%) and Monero (XMR) at 43 long and 24 short (83% long, price up 9.3%). Among the 7-day group's top 20, five lean short: HYPE (69 long and 40 short by headcount, but 66% short by value), XRP (XRP), Pepe (kPEPE), Cardano (ADA) and Starknet (STRK). In the 30-day group, no top-20 asset leans long by value, where this morning Aave (AAVE) alone did.

The 24-hour group's move from 82% to 87% short should be read as a change in which accounts make up the ranking. The top 100 is drawn again at each aggregation from the past 24 hours' performance, so on an afternoon when the major assets all fell, more accounts that did well with shorts enter the list. Whether the accounts that held longs this morning now hold shorts cannot be told without fill records, which this count does not examine. The 7-day group's slide from 76% to 72% long comes from the same mechanism as the seven-day window moves a few hours forward, and it says nothing about which side is right.

A few large positions can swing the value shares. Positions on other exchanges and spot holdings outside these four venues are not counted, so hedging cannot be ruled out. Current positions alone do not reveal any trader's full strategy or the market's next move.
