> Ethereum options open interest rose 1.76% to $6.32 billion. Calls held 62.00% of open interest, while Binance's $2,400 put led 24-hour contract volume.

Ethereum options open interest rose 1.76% to $6.32 billion. Calls accounted for the larger share of outstanding positions and daily trading, while the $2,400 put led contract trading volume.

Calls held a stronger lead in open interest than in daily turnover, showing a difference between accumulated positions and short-term trading activity.

As of October 22, 2026, at 11:21 UTC, Ethereum options open interest totaled $6.32 billion, up from $6.21 billion in the previous snapshot. Options trading volume totaled $1.40 billion.

Calls represented 62.00% of open interest, compared with 38.00% for puts. By 24-hour trading volume, calls accounted for 55.59% and puts for 44.41%.

The composition showed a clear call preference among outstanding contracts. Calls also led daily trading, although their smaller share of turnover indicated a less pronounced imbalance in recent activity.

The contracts with the most open interest were, in order, Deribit's $3,200 call expiring December 25, 2026; its $2,200 call expiring December 25, 2026; and its $2,600 call expiring October 30, 2026.

The leading contracts by 24-hour trading volume were Binance's $2,400 put, OKX's $2,440 put and Binance's $2,450 call, all expiring October 23, 2026.

[Editor's note] Options are derivatives used to take leveraged exposure to an underlying asset or hedge existing positions. Calls give holders the right to buy at a predetermined price, while puts give holders the right to sell. Open interest measures outstanding contracts and indicates the accumulated size of positions.

Comparing call and put shares across open interest and volume helps distinguish accumulated positioning from recent trading. Rising open interest indicates an increase in outstanding contracts, but a larger call share alone does not establish the direction of future prices or the purpose of individual positions.
