Tristan Thompson says he is buying Bitcoin every day and pursuing acquisitions of mining facilities and data centers, while putting his year-end Bitcoin target at $110,000.

In an October 22 interview with Cointelegraph at Token 2049, the NBA player said his conviction in Bitcoin remained strong despite the market downturn. He said he would continue holding the asset while expanding his involvement in mining.

Thompson said he was more bullish on Bitcoin now than when he first encountered it. Calling it “digital gold,” he compared accumulating and holding Bitcoin to saving through a retirement account.

His approach to other tokens involves more active profit-taking. While buying Bitcoin daily, he said he takes profits on leveraged trades, including a NEAR position two days before the interview. He also disclosed a long position in Zcash.

On Solana, Thompson said he supplies liquidity to pools, earns fees and converts those earnings into SOL. He also uses some of his Bitcoin-linked holdings to provide liquidity on Base, seeking ways to put his assets to work.

Thompson cautioned against excessive leverage, saying some investors who made money quickly in crypto had treated their capital like a game. He argued against risking all of those gains on a single speculative bet and emphasized taking profits along the way.

He said the economics of Bitcoin mining depend on electricity prices and production costs. Thompson estimated that mining one Bitcoin in the United States could cost about $45,000 to $50,000 under favorable conditions. In his assessment, mining remains attractive if operators can secure suitable costs and keep facilities running.

Lower energy costs also explain why mining facilities are being developed in other countries, he said. Thompson said buildings used as data centers could accommodate Bitcoin mining and that he was looking to buy available facilities. He expects to own several sites.

For Zcash, Thompson highlighted privacy and the potential to use the token for payments or build services on its network. He suggested it could eventually develop toward a digital banking model.

Asked where Bitcoin would finish the year, Thompson settled on $110,000. He immediately corrected an initial answer of $210,000 as a verbal slip, saying he expected Bitcoin to recover to $110,000 after the midterm elections and before year-end.
