> Eight in 10 respondents rated the economy fair or poor, and voters favored Democratic control of Congress by 52% to 45%.

President Donald Trump’s economic approval fell to 34% in a national survey released Oct. 22, while voters gave Democrats a 52%-45% edge on which party should control Congress ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms.

The survey included 1,000 registered voters nationwide and has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. Economic approval declined four points from July’s 38%, while disapproval rose five points from 60% to 65%. Trump’s net rating of minus 31 points was the lowest of either term.

Eighty percent of respondents described the economy as fair or poor, the highest share since December 2023. A separate measure found 63% pessimistic about the economy’s current condition and outlook, one percentage point more than in July. Republican pessimism stood at 35%, up six points and the highest share of either Trump term.

“We got there not because of independents or Democrats getting more sour — it’s because Republicans have,” said Micah Roberts, a partner at Public Opinion Strategies.

Everyday expenses were also a major concern. Fifty-seven percent named food, gas and housing costs together as their top concern. Eighty percent said prices were rising, while 55% said they were rising faster than usual. Food costs were cited more often than gas, 34% to 23%, an 11-point gap.

On control of Congress, the Democratic lead was seven points nationally, three points wider than in July. In eight states with competitive Senate races, voters favored Democratic control by four points. Trump’s combined margin of victory across those states in 2024 was 10 points.

The survey measures party preference for Congress, not voter choices in individual House or Senate races, and does not forecast the result of any one contest. Its eight-state comparison likewise does not identify likely winners in specific Senate races. The midterms are scheduled for Nov. 3.

For crypto and markets readers, the results offer a broad measure of voters’ views on the economy and congressional control. The survey did not assess cryptocurrency prices, trading flows or digital-asset policy. A September [consumer sentiment report](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/24243>) also recorded a four-month low alongside weaker Republican sentiment.
