‘Satoshi Index’ is a daily series in which [Satoshi Note™, a crypto portfolio tracker](<https://satoshinote.io/?utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261023_09>), analyzes the current positions of top traders using on-chain data. Data refreshes hourly; figures reflect the aggregation time stated in the article. [Editor's note]

As of 7:48 a.m. KST on Oct. 23 (22:48 UTC, Oct. 22), about 92% of the position notional held by the top 100 traders ranked on 7-day performance is short. Long positions total about $283 million and short positions about $3.30 billion. The figures combine the 7-day top-100 accounts on four exchanges, Hyperliquid, Lighter, dYdX and Pacifica, summed by asset.

In the previous edition, aggregated at 4:13 p.m. KST on Oct. 22, the same 7-day group held about $1.54 billion long and $586 million short, a 72% long share. Over roughly 15 and a half hours, long notional fell by $1.26 billion and short notional rose by $2.71 billion. In yesterday morning's edition the 7-day group had moved from 13% long to 76% long; this morning it is back to 8% long. On Hyperliquid, Bitcoin (BTC) fell 3.4% over the 24 hours to the aggregation time, Ethereum (ETH) 3.6%, Solana (SOL) 3.2%, Hyperliquid (HYPE) 4.2%, NEAR 6.9% and Zcash (ZEC) 7.3%. All 20 largest assets by notional were down.

The 24-hour group moved from 87% short in the previous edition to 94% short, with about $216 million long and $3.19 billion short. The 30-day group holds about $335 million long and $3.49 billion short, 91% short, unchanged from the previous edition. This is the first edition since the series went to two editions a day on the evening of Oct. 20 in which all three groups are more than 90% short.

Unrealized profit and loss in the 7-day group went from a gain of about $36 million in the previous edition to a loss of about $20 million. The 24-hour group shows a loss of about $20 million, smaller than the $36 million loss yesterday evening, and the 30-day group a loss of about $11 million, down from $42 million. Within the 7-day group, HYPE positions (96% short by notional) carry a loss of about $35.4 million and BTC positions about $26.2 million, while ZEC positions show the largest gain at about $14.1 million. In the 30-day group, HYPE shorts carry the largest loss at about $44.8 million.

For Bitcoin (BTC), the 7-day group holds 79 long and 141 short accounts, with about $96 million long and $956 million short, 91% short. In the previous edition it was 139 long and 63 short, 80% long by notional. Long accounts fell by 60 and short accounts rose by 78. The 24-hour group holds 82 long and 164 short, about $73 million long and $953 million short, 93% short, up from 86%. The 30-day group holds 97 long and 133 short, 95% short. BTC traded at about $81,340 on Hyperliquid.

For Ethereum (ETH), the 7-day group holds 61 long and 127 short accounts, about $34 million long and $919 million short, 96% short. In the previous edition it was 109 long and 61 short, 79% long. The 24-hour group holds 69 long and 149 short, about $30 million long and $869 million short, 97% short, and the 30-day group 63 long and 136 short, 92% short. ETH unrealized results are small relative to size: a gain of about $2.3 million in the 24-hour group, a loss of about $2.2 million in the 7-day group and a loss of about $5.6 million in the 30-day group.

The largest drop in the headcount long ratio within the 7-day group since the previous edition came in [NEAR](<https://satoshinote.io/traders/coins/near?window=week&utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261023_09>) and Ethena (ENA), both down more than 38 points and nearly tied. NEAR, the larger by notional, went from 44 long and 27 short accounts (62% long by headcount, 68% long by notional) to 24 long and 77 short (24% by headcount, 1% by notional), with about $1 million long and $113 million short. Its unrealized result went from the 7-day group's largest gain of about $24 million to a loss of about $18.8 million. NEAR fell about 6.9% over 24 hours to $4.88 on Hyperliquid.

In the 24-hour group NEAR holds 29 long and 78 short accounts, 91% short by notional. In the 30-day group it is unchanged at 33 long and 49 short, 31% long by notional, with an unrealized gain of about $8.2 million, the largest in that group. ENA in the 7-day group went from 26 long and 18 short to 18 long and 70 short, with about $1 million long and $29 million short. Zcash (ZEC) in the 7-day group went from 75 long and 34 short (86% long by notional) to 39 long and 71 short (94% short). Of the 20 largest 7-day assets by notional, 15 leaned long in the previous edition; none does now. No top-20 asset in the 24-hour or 30-day group leans long by notional either, and the only asset with more long than short accounts in all three windows is Monero (XMR).

The 7-day group moving from 72% long to 92% short overnight does not mean the accounts that were long yesterday evening moved to the short side. The ranking re-selects its top 100 by trailing 7-day performance at every aggregation, so on a day when major assets fall 3% to 10%, accounts that protected their results with shorts rise into the ranking and accounts that lost on longs drop out. The group that was mostly long yesterday evening and the group that is mostly short this morning may be largely different accounts, and whether any single account changed direction cannot be known without its fill records, which this series does not examine.

A few large positions can also sway the notional shares, and holdings on other exchanges or in spot are not aggregated, so hedging cannot be ruled out. Current positions alone do not establish an individual trader's overall strategy or the direction of the market.
