> The liquidation total covered multiple crypto assets. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $635.6 million in net outflows on Oct. 22.

Bitcoin (BTC) traded at $81,568.96 at 2:21 a.m. ET (06:21 UTC) Friday after about $431 million in crypto derivatives positions were liquidated over a 24-hour period, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.6% Thursday.

The liquidation total covered multiple crypto assets, not Bitcoin alone. Short positions accounted for about $173 million in liquidations during Bitcoin’s rise toward $85,000. In the final 12 hours of the measured period, long positions made up $210 million of the $222 million liquidated.

The Nasdaq Composite lost 694 points to close at 26,008.86 on Thursday. The S&P 500 fell 1.2%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up less than 0.1%; losses were concentrated in technology shares.

Investors withdrew a net $635.6 million from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs on Oct. 22, after inflows of $526.7 million on Oct. 19, $23.2 million on Oct. 20 and $524.8 million on Oct. 21.

Liquidations happen when exchanges forcibly close leveraged positions because a trader’s collateral no longer covers losses.
