> He said sustained oil strength may signal slower growth and limit liquidity for risk assets, while describing a historical pattern rather than a direct cause-and-effect link.

Analyst Darkfost said Brent crude was above $100 on Oct. 23 and that sustained oil strength may signal slower economic growth and limit liquidity for risk assets such as Bitcoin (BTC).

Darkfost tied the potential pressure to the broader economic conditions that can accompany rising oil. He said those conditions are unfavorable for new liquidity entering markets, especially markets for high-risk assets.

Bitcoin’s performance has tended to slow when Brent is in a strong uptrend and above its annual average, Darkfost said. Sharp drops in oil have often coincided with Bitcoin rebounds.

He cautioned that oil and Bitcoin do not have a simple cause-and-effect relationship. The potential risk to digital assets comes from the economic environment surrounding rising oil, rather than an automatic response between the two prices.

A brief market respite in July gave Bitcoin an opportunity, Darkfost said, before Brent later rebounded strongly. Liquidity can shift between markets, he said, though current economic conditions are unfavorable for new liquidity to enter markets.
